Karate Combat: ANNOUNCEMENT: Three New Fighters Signed to Karate Combat

Karate Combat today announced three new fighter signings ahead of the upcoming Karate Combat 35 event taking place Saturday, August 27 on The Backlot of Universal Studios Florida in Orlando.

Bruno ‘The Tiger’ Souza and Maciej Tercjak will join the Karate Combat lightweight division while Dean ‘The Sniper’ Barry joins the welterweight division. All three fighters have signed exclusive agreements with KC Karate Combat.

BRUNO SOUZA

Souza, a UFC veteran and former LFA World Featherweight Champion, is a protege of former UFC light-heavyweight world champion Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida, having trained at the Machida Dojo in Belem, Brazil from the age of four.

Now a black belt in Machida Karate - as well as judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Souza won the LFA Featherweight Championship in August 2021 before moving to the UFC. His 10-3 MMA record includes three wins inside the distance.

DEAN BARRY

Barry, fighting out of Dublin, Ireland, is also a UFC veteran with considerable karate pedigree. Raised in a family of practitioners, his expertise and multiple world championships won him friends in high places: in 2017 he was hand-picked by Georges St-Pierre to be a sparring partner for him at the TriStar gym in Canada.

Training at the TriStar gym prompted Barry to begin competing in MMA, a decision which eventually led him to the ranks of the UFC. Now he’s returning to his karate roots and is set on winning the Karate Combat World Welterweight Championship.

MACIEJ TERCJAK

Poland’s Tercjak is a Kyokushin Karate stylist with several national and European championships to his name. He has also competed in professional kickboxing, winning his latest bout earlier this year by way of a first-round head-kick knockout.

Bruno Souza and Dean Barry have fought on the biggest platforms in the world and I’m excited to welcome them back to their karate roots, while Tercjak has an explosive style I think our fans will love. This is only the beginning - we’ve got some huge signings coming up,”

News of debut bouts for the newly-signed fighters will be announced in the near future.

Karate Combat’s next event takes place Saturday, August 27 on The Backlot of Universal Studios Florida in Orlando.

Karate Combat 35 (#KC35) is headlined by a champion vs champion superfight, with welterweight champion Josh ‘The Preacher’ Quayhagen taking on lightweight champion Luiz ‘The Pitbull’ Rocha in a five-round main event.
